Message from the Board Chair

Nancy Dunkel On behalf of the Iowa Department of Economic Development (IDED), I present this IDED FY ’10 Annual Report. Economic development spans a wide range of activity and this report provides an overview of the breadth and depth of IDED programs and activities. I encourage you to take time to review the Targeted Programs and Initiatives section of the website for highlights of accomplishments in business, workforce and community development.

During FY ’10, IDED employed 135 staff members and had a budget of approximately $150 million in state, federal and other funds. In addition, IDED also received $516 million during FY ’09 in CDBG disaster recovery awards to support rebuilding efforts after the 2008 natural disasters. This report highlights the hard work of FY ’10.

As a result of the passing of House File 2450 during the 2008 Legislative Session, most of the required reporting of the department has been aligned with the common reporting deadline of January 31 for the fiscal year ending on June 30 of the previous year. This FY ’10 Annual Report includes information on action taken July 1, 2009 – June 30, 2010.

The Economic Development Board is very proud of the accomplishments achieved during FY ’10 to foster growth and sustainability for Iowa’s workforce, communities and businesses.

Nancy Dunkel, Iowa Economic Development Board Chair
