Petition Process

Processing of a petition requires the following actions:

• The Board directs the appointment of a Committee consisting of Board members and representatives from the area involved in the petition.
• The committee holds a public hearing on the petition.
• Following the public hearing, the Committee either approves or disapproves the petition.
• If the petition is approved, the Board arranges a special election on the petition.
• If the voters approve the petition, the boundary change becomes effective, provided there is no appeal to District Court.
