Iowa Downtown Summit

The 24th annual Iowa Downtown Summit, sponsored by the Iowa Department of Economic Development and the Federal Home Loan Bank - Des Moines, will be held August 24 & 25 in Davenport, Iowa.
The conference provides opportunities for attendees to make new contacts, hear about the latest trends, acquire practical information and ideas, and learn strategies for historic preservation-based commercial district revitalization that is relevant to rural, mid-sized and urban communities.
Featured speakers include Senator Tom Harkin (invited), Carol Dyson (Illinois Historic Preservation Agency), Dan Carmody (Eastern Market Corporation) and Ron Frantz (Oklahoma Department of Commerce).
Session topics include: the Americans with Disabilities Act; upper story development; farmers' market and local sustainability; marketing; new non-profit tax reporting requirements; retail innovations; creating child friendly districts; fundraising; niche promotions; helping retailers compete; cultural and heritage events; engaging a young workforce; and understanding market analysis. In addition, tours of Davenport's LEED certified police station, mixed use development, arts and culture venues and neighborhood commercial districts will be offered.
