Location One Information System (LOIS)
The Iowa Department of Economic Development partners with the utility firm Aquilla, to provide state, county, metro and community data through an online database called Location One Information System (LOIS). This online tool showcases economic development data and available property to prospective businesses looking to expand or locate in Iowa.
The data contained within LOIS is a product of two main entities. The first is Institute for Decision Making (IDM); they are responsible for researching and entering the majority of the metro, county and state data. The second, and most critical, is the local officials within a respective community. The IDED relies heavily on community participation in maintaining this data.
Community economic development representatives or city officials are issued a user account, which in turn enables them to update and maintain the community or communities they are responsible for. In addition, this user account also gives the organization the ability to display the LOIS interface within their Web site, greatly increasing the value of this system to the local organization.
