Iowa Apprenticeship Programs

Training employees through apprenticeships

There are more than 1,000 occupations eligible for apprenticeship training grants, from accounting specialists to nurses. Registered apprenticeships are a proven approach to preparing workers for in-demand jobs and meeting the needs of business for a highly skilled workforce that can innovate and adapt. The program is administered by the Iowa Economic Development Authority (IEDA) in coordination with the United States Department of Labor (DOL), Office of Apprenticeship (OA).

  • Increases registered apprentices in Iowa by providing training grants to eligible apprenticeship programs
  • Awards must be used for conducting and maintaining an apprenticeship training program
  • Become a Registered Apprenticeship Sponsor by downloading the DOL/OA Quick-Start Toolkit to start and register an apprenticeship program
  • Additional information is available in the frequently asked questions

  • Only apprenticeship programs that meet DOL/OA specific requirements and standards are eligible for training grants
  • A sponsor or lead sponsor (a trade organization, labor organization, employee organization or other incorporated entity representing a group of registered apprenticeship sponsors) may apply for an IEDA training grant
