New year, new art museum for Iowa

A new art museum will break ground in Iowa City in 2018, with a recent $10 million donation from two of the state’s great philanthropists – Richard and Mary Jo Stanley.

The University of Iowa Stanley Museum of Art is planned to house the university’s art collection, which includes Jackson Pollock’s Mural.

Currently, the university’s art collection is in its student union as well as the Figge Art Museum in Davenport. Flooding to the school's former art museum forced university officials to move the collection in 2008.

With an opening currently scheduled for 2020, the museum will be one of 11 fine art museums throughout Iowa, contributing to the state’s rich culture. To learn more about living in Iowa, visit iowaeconomicdevelopment.com/quality-of-life.
