Forest City Rail Park

The Forest City Rail Park is comprised of a total of 68.8 acres with 55 acres certified for industrial development. The property is owned by Forest City Economic Development and is ready for development.

As a Certified Site, the Rail Park has completed all surveys and any risks detailed in these reports mitigated. These include, but are not limited to, Phases 1 and 2 Environmental Surveys, Cultural and Endangered Species Assessment, Soil Surveys and Borings, and Wetlands Delineation. Additionally, Road, Utility and Other Infrastructure Engineering Plans are in place.

Iowa Northern Railway (IANR) offers service to this site through a rail spur to be constructed within the property. Three designs have been created by IANR for spurs depending on a business’ needs. IANR has three direct Class 1 interchanges and a short line interchange. With all these connections, customers have access to all Class 1 railroads and the entire North American rail network.

About Forest City

The city of Forest City is a friendly community Where Nature’s Close and Friends are Closer! Located in North Central Iowa, 15 miles west of Interstate 35 and 120 miles from both Minneapolis and Des Moines.

For business or lifestyle, Forest City offers a wide range of activities.  In the warmer months, enjoy many miles of bike trails, nine parks, 26 miles of canoeing and kayaking on the Winnebago River, a 21-hole disc golf course and a beautiful 18-hole golf course. Many unique tours are available including Winnebago Industries’ Nationally Recognized Plant Tour and Heritage Park of North Iowa’s many exhibits of local agricultural and transportation history.

Partnerships have long been a practice of development in Forest City. Starting in 1896, the business community paid for the new county courthouse to ensure the community was named the county seat. Partnerships have generated many great projects to grow Forest City: the purchase of a 28-mile rail line to keep service operating in the area, the development of Nerem Industrial Park, FC Rail Park, improvements to athletic complexes and most recently the $10 million Boman Fine Arts Center. Forest City partners for growth!

Entrepreneurship has also thrived in Forest City. John K. Hanson and several others founded Winnebago Industries from a small company to its growth today as a publicly held company with recent revenues of over $2 billion. Waldorf University was founded in 1903 as a post-secondary academy and now offers Undergraduate and Graduate Degrees. Many other local and regional companies have found their start in the community and companies of Forest City.
