Marshalltown Industrial Site achieves certification status

February 15, 2024 – (Des Moines) Today, Iowa Economic Development Authority (IEDA) and Iowa Finance Authority Director Debi Durham joined utility partners and officials from Marshalltown to commemorate the certification of the Marshalltown Industrial Site through IEDA’s Certified Sites Program. The site joins 22 other sites across Iowa which are currently designated as project-ready.

“Iowa improves its competitive advantage with each certified site,” said Director Durham.  “Companies that want to expand or relocate are conducting their site searches on aggressive timelines. Certification tells these companies a site is development-ready and shows our communities are open for business and prepared to welcome new investment.”

The Marshalltown Industrial Site consists of 95 acres, almost all of which are developable. The site is located less than four miles from four-lane U.S. Highway 30 for transportation access. Marshalltown’s central location provides access to over 520,000 workforce-aged population. The site and community are well suited for industries such as advanced manufacturing, food production and animal food production.

“We are thrilled to be able to announce the certified site through IEDA today,” said John Hall, President and CEO of the Marshalltown Area Chamber of Commerce. “This is one more piece of our comprehensive economic development strategy coming together and better positioning Marshalltown to compete for these great economic development projects. We have already seen activity increase as a result of this site, as well as others coming onto our market, and fully expect that this is just the beginning of the activity we will see.”

The IEDA Certified Sites Program launched in 2012 and continues to be one of the most robust and effective certification programs in the nation. The program was created to address the lack of project-ready industrial sites in the state. It is an independent, third-party certification program that uses the nationally recognized site selection firm, Quest Site Solutions as the certifying agent. The program is designed to consider national site location standards, as well as Iowa’s natural assets and the needs of the state’s targeted industry sectors of advanced manufacturing, biosciences, and finance and insurance.

Site certification remains one of the most important factors in the site selection business. It is a rigorous process that ensures developers – working closely with local officials, utility partners and consultants – are better prepared to market their sites with specific site-related information and community data. The process also speeds up the development schedule by having due diligence completed and plans in place to mitigate any identified issues, reducing risk to companies.
