Four Sites Certified & Ready for Development

April 30, 2014

I’m so proud to reveal the first four industrial sites to achieve certification through the Iowa Economic Development Authority’s (IEDA) Certified Site Program

The four sites are located in Fort Dodge, Iowa Falls, Van Meter and Dexter. These four communities worked very hard, dedicating much time and resources, to achieve this designation. Iowa’s Certified Site Program was launched in May 2012 to address the lack of project-ready industrial sites in the state.

Through the Iowa Certified Site Program, a combination of national site location standards as well as Iowa’s natural assets and industry needs of the state’s targeted sectors are considered and evaluated by nationally recognized site selection firm McCallum Sweeney Consulting.

After ensuring that a site is available, serviceable and developable, it can achieve certification. This is not an easy process for these sites to go through – but by participating in this growing trend in the site selection business, Iowa is better able to compete for large scale projects. Put simply, certified sites give us an edge on the competition. And, we’ll take that any day!

I want to thank these four communities for going through this rigorous process. Not only will it pay dividends for your counties and communities, but for the state as a whole. I’m hopeful that by this time next year, 11 additional sites could also be “certified” and eventually, I’d love to be able to offer up a certified site in each of Iowa’s 99 counties.
