Stop! You're making us blush

January 24, 2014

Iowa grabbed the national spotlight this week with coverage on the TODAY Show, two articles on WashingtonPost.com and a Forbes listing for the lowest unemployment rates in the country.

Our capital city of Des Moines was selected as the nation's "wealthiest city" by TODAY. The "wealthy" term had a well-round definition, including career opportunities, home ownership, cost-of-living and family-friendliness.

With more than 70 parks, 45 miles of trails, an award-winning Farmer's Market, and healthy tech/start-up community, we tend to agree that Central Iowa is a great place to live and work.

On the heels of this TV highlight, Washington Post political writer, Chris Cilizza lists "Why Iowa Rules - in 12 Steps." His numerous trips to Iowa leading up to and during the presidential caucus' have definitely given him a local's viewpoint of things NOT to miss when in the Hawkeye State. Cilizza also calls out a recent national study by a Harvard researcher regarding upward, economic mobility. The study by The Equality of Opportunity Project found 36 counties in Iowa where children of lower-income households, earn a much higher income than their parents. This demonstrates a core part of the American Dream - where your children are better off in life - is still achievable in certain parts of the country.

And finally, Forbes rounds up the cities with the lowest unemployment rates - coming in at #3 and #4 respectively is Ames and Iowa City. We can't wait to see which Iowa community grabs the headlines next week!
