There’s one topic of conversation in Iowa this week: the Iowa State vs. Iowa football game. College athletics are a beloved part of our state, and part of the quality of life Iowa offers. More than 70,000 Iowans will fill the University of Iowa’s sold-out Kinnick Stadium in Iowa City this Saturday for the match-up. Thousands more will go to Iowa City just to tailgate and celebrate, and almost everyone else in the state will watch this celebrated rivalry on TV.
Unlike any of our six neighboring states, Iowa has not one, but two, public universities that compete in the highest level of collegiate football (University of Iowa and Iowa State). We also have the University of Northern Iowa Panthers football team, who are one of the top programs in the Football Championship Subdivision (FCS).
Supporting collegiate athletics is just one more way Iowans make good use of the extra time and money that comes with a career and life in Iowa. If you’re looking for an Iowan on a Saturday this fall, start in one of these three electric places:
