Three reasons manufacturers thrive in Iowa for #MFGday16

October 7, 2016

Happy Manufacturing Day! Manufacturing is Iowa’s largest industry by share of state GDP – Iowa's manufacturers accounted for more than $31.8 billion in GDP in 2015. Three reasons why Iowa is a good place for manufacturers to locate include:

Iowa locations are cost-effective – CNBC’s “Top States for Business Report 2016” said Iowa has the second lowest cost of business in the country.

Tackling the skills gap – A survey of more than 500 CEOs conducted by Chief Executive magazine ranked Iowa sixth for workforce quality, and Iowa universities conferred the fifth most STEM degrees in the country per 1,000 state residents. Iowa's not stopping there. STEM education programs are reaching students throughout the state and already showing results – like a 21 percent increase in teachers with a STEM endorsement.

Iowa assists businesses that grow its economy – The Iowa Economic Development Authority offers a variety of assistance packages, including the High Quality Jobs Program.

There are so many benefits Iowa offers manufacturers, like a proactive approach to freight transportation, ample, affordable renewable energy and development-ready certified sites.
