Iowa State University wins award for workforce development

The Association of Public and Land-grant Universities (APLU) recognized Iowa State University with an award for workforce development.

The APLU Innovation & Economic Prosperity University Awards honor public universities actively engaged in and promoting regional economic development. Iowa State won the 2017 “talent” category, which honors an institution with exemplary initiatives in education and workforce development.

The release cites Iowa State’s entrepreneurship initiatives, consulting services for private industry and development of programs which encourage high school students to pursue science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) education as the basis for the award.

Iowa is one of only seven states with multiple public universities that are members of the Association of American Universities (AAU), a group which comprises the top 62 private and public research universities in the U.S. Together, Iowa’s three public universities and 15 community colleges are a significant reason why Iowa is known for having one of the nation’s highest-quality workforces.
