Des Moines earns praise after NCAA tournament games

Last weekend March Madness came to Des Moines as Iowa’s capital city hosted games in the first two rounds of the NCAA Men’s Division I Basketball Championship. College basketball royalty arrived in Des Moines, with marquee programs Indiana University, University of Connecticut, University of Kansas and University of Kentucky all playing two games in three days at Wells Fargo Arena.

After successfully hosting games in the NCAA women’s tournament and the wrestling national championships, this was the first time Des Moines had served as a host city for the men’s basketball tournament – the crown jewel of collegiate athletics. Thousands of visitors filled downtown hotels and restaurants, and media flocked to the city.

The games were thrilling and the town was abuzz. Iowans know how good we have it here, and the out-of-towners took notice. Here’s just a small sample of our favorite comments:
