We have one of the lowest costs of doing business in the country, and our world-class research universities produce nearly 2,000 engineering graduates each year. With these elements in place, our startup community is thriving. Here’s what Workiva CEO Matt Rizai wrote in Fast Company about locating his start-up in Iowa:

“Iowa gives us – and a fast-growing number of our high-tech neighbors – more space to stand out and compete than we'd have on either coast.”

This community will coalesce at SXSW at #IowaHour – a startup happy hour organized by IEDA, the City of West Des Moines, the Greater Des Moines Partnership, Quad Cities First and Workiva. #IowaHour will be the place at SXSW to form relationships with Iowa’s startup innovators, like Ames-based KinoSol, which is helping end food waste; or WorkHound from Des Moines, which decreases turnover in the trucking industry; or Coralville’s HLT, a platform for mobile learning applications. Meet these companies and other startups at #IowaHour, and learn what programs the state of Iowa has available to help startups succeed. If you’re an Iowa-based startup, an entrepreneur looking for a place to locate your business or an investor seeking the next great company, #IowaHour is a SXSW event not to miss.
