McKesson Corporation calls Clear Lake home

February 24, 2015

After the unveiling of the unidentified company, Clear Lake, Iowa is now giving a warm welcome to McKesson Corporation.

McKesson is constructing a 340,000-square-foot distribution center located in the northeast Iowa community, a project worth just over $65 million. Founded in 1833, the company has built its name as a trusted distributor of medicine, medical supplies and health care information solutions.

From delivering products via covered wagon to a company with global reach, McKesson has experienced significant growth throughout its 180+ years in business. The company is currently ranked 15th on the list of Fortune 100 companies and employs more than 42,000 individuals worldwide.

The San Francisco based company’s Clear Lake project is expected to create 164 jobs. McKesson saw great appeal when deciding to locate in Iowa, whose central location, will give the company easy access to serve the Midwestern region.

The city of Clear Lake and Cerro Gordo County also made a $9.3 commitment to McKesson for a 10-year forgivable loan and a 15-year, 90 percent property tax rebate.

The company received additional assistance from the Iowa Economic Development Authority Board, as it awarded the pharmaceutical company with incentives, including a $170,000 forgivable loan and tax benefits through the High Quality Jobs program.

This project is an exciting addition to the Clear Lake community and is set to be operational by May 2016. The announcement was just part of the $237 million in capital investments approved by the IEDA board this month.
