Extended Service-Learning Mini-Grant Program Supports Youth Service Initiatives

Application Submission through March 16, 2011

March 3, 2011 (Des Moines, IA) As the Lead Agency for Global Youth Service Day (April 15th-17th, 2011) in Iowa, the Iowa Commission on Volunteer Service is pleased to announce the development of the 2011 Extended Service-Learning Mini-Grant program.  Global Youth Service Day is the only worldwide Day of Service that focuses upon utilizing the “youth voice” to address the needs of local communities.

To be considered for funding, applicants will develop a youth-led, extended Service-Learning project (or three, separate Service-Learning projects) that engages youth (age 5-25) in meaningful opportunities to serve their communities on Global Youth Service Day, throughout the Summer of Service, and on the 2011 September 11th Day of Service and Remembrance.

The mini-grant application, along with a detailed overview of the mini-grant requirements and expectations is available in Survey Monkey:  Mini-grant applications are due March 16th, 2011.  A number of resources, including a mini-grant rubric and the 2011 Global Youth Service Day Handbook, are now available on the Iowa Commission on Volunteer Service’s website:
