$1,059,724 in Grants Awarded to Iowa Communities

 

April 13, 2011 (Des Moines) - The Vision Iowa Board awarded $1,059,724 in grants to library projects in Atkins, North Liberty and Clarksville. The grants were approved Wednesday by the Vision Iowa Board at their meeting in Urbandale.

 

"Libraries are the heart of so many smaller communities and they are an important quality of life feature providing services for residents of all ages," said Vision Iowa Board Chairwoman Regenia Bailey.

 

The following projects were approved for grants awarded from the Community Attraction and Tourism (CAT) Fund:

 

Atkins Library, Community Room and City Hall - Atkins

Total Project Cost: $1,535,274

Amount Requested: $282,196

Amount Awarded: $277,000

Award Contingencies: Completion of fundraising in 60 days.

 

This project includes the construction of an 8,906-square-foot facility to house the Atkins Public Library, Community Room and City Hall.

 

North Liberty Community Center Phase III: Library Expansion – North Liberty

Total Project Cost: $3,389,000

Amount Requested: $622,484

Amount Awarded: $622,484

Award Contingencies: Completion of fundraising in 60 days.

 

This project includes the construction of an 11,400-square-foot addition to the North Liberty Library. This addition will provide space for five meeting rooms, three youth programming areas, twice the current seating and 20 additional computer stations.

 

Clarksville Public Library - Clarksville

Total Project Cost: $664,600

Amount Requested: $160,241

Amount Awarded: $160,240

Award Contingencies: Completion of fundraising in 60 days.

 

This project includes the construction of an expansion that will double the size of the Clarksville Public Library. This additional space will allow for new computer kiosks, improved public meeting rooms, new staff working area, and a dedicated room for the Butler County Genealogical Society.

 

The Vision Iowa Program provides financial incentives to communities for the construction of recreational, cultural, educational or entertainment facilities that enhance the quality of life in Iowa. Currently, 347 CAT awards have been granted by the board, totaling $131,292,929. Eight RECAT grants, totaling $9,173,000 have been awarded. The next Vision Iowa Board meeting is scheduled for May 11, 2011, in Des Moines.
