Dig Iowa, Win Prizes during Iowa Tourism Office Promotion

April 25, 2010 (Des Moines, Iowa) – The Iowa Tourism Office has launched an online conversation about Iowa, encouraging travelers to share their Iowa favorites and enter a contest to win weekend getaways and tourism prizes.

People who share what they dig, or like, about Iowa at www.idigiowa.com are automatically entered to win a monthly prize package from one of five communities – Newton, Okoboji, Waterloo, Iowa City and Mason City. The packages are valued at up to $500 and can include overnight stays, attraction tickets and merchandise. Each package also includes a $50 ethanol gas card from the Iowa Corn Promotion Board. The promotion runs through August.

“We know travelers are looking hard for affordable destinations this year,” said Shawna Lode, manager of the Iowa Tourism Office. “The ‘I Dig Iowa’ promotion is designed to get people talking about great places to see and visit right here in Iowa.”

The Iowa Tourism Office will have a special “I Dig Iowa” event on August 19 at the Iowa State Fair. Fairgoers will have the opportunity to win Iowa travel-related prizes on the Grand Concourse as part of the Iowa Corn Promotion Board’s exhibit.

The promotion’s official rules can be found on www.traveliowa.com. All prize package winners will be determined by a random drawing and announced each month.

Travelers are also encouraged to connect with the Iowa Tourism Office on Twitter (www.twitter.com/Travel_Iowa), Facebook (www.facebook.com/IowaTourism), their blog (www.traveliowa.blogspot.com) as well as upload Iowa vacation photos to the Travel Iowa Flickr Pool (www.flickr.com/groups/traveliowa).

Tourism is a $6.1 billion industry in Iowa, employing more than 63,000 people statewide and generating more than $312 million in state taxes. The Iowa Tourism Office is part of the Iowa Department of Economic Development.
