YOUTH ORGANIZATIONS ENCOURAGED TO APPLY FOR AMERICORPS MEMBERS

Iowa AmeriCorps State of Promise accepting host site applications through May 31

April 27, 2011 (Des Moines, IOWA) – The Iowa AmeriCorps State of Promise invites youth-serving organizations to apply to be host sites for AmeriCorps members during the 2011-12 program year. Organizations that can utilize a small contingent of AmeriCorps members to help meet their mission are encouraged to apply. The application deadline is May 31.

IASOP serves as an intermediary organization by providing members to organizations that focus on fulfilling all or parts of the Five Promises for Youth, but do not have the need or capacity to operate an independent AmeriCorps program. Members will aid organizations by serving in activities ranging from mentoring, tutoring, volunteer recruitment, coordinating youth leadership programming, building community awareness, and developing partnerships to ensure that “all Iowa youth have safe and supportive families, schools and communities and that they are healthy, socially competent, successful in school, and prepared for a productive adulthood.”

The application is available on the IASOP website at http://www.extension.iastate.edu/4h/Americorps/. For general information, please contact Judy McCarthy at mccarthy@iastate.edu or 515.294.1611.
