Iowa Department of Economic Development Announces HUD Approval for Distribution of $1 Million for Webster County Recovery Projects

June 3, 2011 (DES MOINES) – The Iowa Department of Economic Development (IDED) today announced that the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) accepted Iowa's plan to use de-obligated Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) dollars for use as the 15 percent match in the Webster County acquisition of properties that sustained flood damage earlier this year.

Ice jams that forced water out of the banks of the Des Moines River in Webster County in February, 2011 damaged numerous homes in the Ft. Dodge area.  IDED will provide the required 25 percent match, which is comprised of a 15 percent local match plus a 10 percent state match.   The local match is being covered by IDED as Webster County’s budget situation is unable to bear the cost.

"I am extremely pleased that these funds have been approved and distressed homeowners can benefit from additional resources," said IDED director Debi Durham.

Webster County residents can contact Tony Jorgenson, Emergency Management Coordinator at 515.573.1403 or for additional information.
