Des Moines, IA (September 6, 2011) - The Iowa Economic Development Authority and Iowa Association of Business and Industry (ABI) are hosting the 2011 Iowa Environmental Conference on September 20 at the Sheraton – West Des Moines.

This one-day conference will provide assistance to anyone needing to understand current and emerging environmental issues impacting business and economic development in Iowa.  Keeping up with regulatory issues and resources, and understanding compliance issues for businesses of all sizes is the focus of this event, which offers multiple program tracks and diverse perspectives.

Helping to bring the event to conference attendees is Premier Sponsor, Seneca Companies.  Additional sponsors include:  3M, Barker-Lemar, and Stanley Consultants.    Conference exhibitors include: Apex Companies, LLC, Keystone Labs, Pollution Prevention Services, Thompson Environmental Consulting, Inc. and Trinity Consultants.

“Growing sustainable business in Iowa requires increased knowledge by all sectors so we can work together on key business development issues and opportunities.  This is an excellent opportunity to increase understanding and build partnerships vital to economic development in Iowa,” said Iowa Economic Development Authority director Debi Durham.

The conference will offer information on several topics with expert presentations in respective areas, such as changes in banking regulations and business climate that might affect businesses, disaster preparedness and overcoming environmental regulations.

ABI president Mike Ralston added, “Iowa businesses are working hard every day to grow our state’s economy while ensuring a clean environment for all Iowans.  This conference is a great opportunity to gain valuable information, expertise, and the opportunity to share best-practices when dealing with current and emerging regulatory issues.”

The event's keynote speaker is Region VII Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) Administrator Karl Brooks.  He will provide an insight into EPA and Region VII’s current activities.  Featured speaker, Governor Terry Branstad’s General Counsel, Brenna Findley, will discuss Iowa’s plan for regulatory reform.  The day wraps up with an interactive opportunity to join a panel discussion on understanding environmental regulations and maximizing compliance.
