Partnering for Growth: Forum for Public Private Partnership to Take Place October 17-18 at FFA Enrichment Center at Ankeny’s DMACC Campus

United States Department of Agriculture’s Agricultural Research Service to meet with Iowa’s agricultural biotech companies to discuss commercialization opportunities

September 21, 2011 (Des Moines, IA) – The Iowa Economic Development Authority, the Iowa Biotech Association, Iowa State University and the Iowa Innovation Council will host the United States Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) Agricultural Research Service (ARS) at a forum to be held October 17-18 at the FFA Enrichment Center at Ankeny’s DMACC Campus. This forum will provide an opportunity for Iowa’s agricultural biotech companies to discuss commercialization of the research conducted through ARS facilities across the country.

This exclusive event, “Partnering for Growth: A Forum for Public Private Collaboration” will enable Iowa companies to learn about the ARS organization and mission, the research available through the ARS and the opportunities for commercialization of that research. Through large group presentations, smaller panel discussions and more intimate networking opportunities, companies will learn about particular research assets within each segment of the USDA’s ARS as it pertains to their specific industry sector. This event is being modeled after an extremely successful earlier event where the Iowa Innovation Council helped to create a similar relationship between Sandia Laboratory and Iowa advanced manufacturing companies.

The two-day forum will begin on October 17 with an overall introduction to the USDA ARS and its specific areas of focus including: plant breeding and crop informatics, bio products, animal health and food ingredients. The forum will continue on the second day with opportunities for scheduled private meetings among ARS scientists, staff and product development and researchers with Iowa companies on potential for specific commercialization opportunities. Iowa’s agricultural biotech companies interested in taking advantage of this type of event should register online:  www.iowabio.org/PFG.

More about USDA’s ARS: ARS continually looks for opportunities to partner with businesses, other federal agencies, state and local governments and universities. These partnerships are designed to augment research programs, expedite research results to the private sector, exchange information and knowledge, stimulate new business and economic development, enhance U.S. trade, preserve the environment and improve the quality of life for all Americans. For more information on the USDA – ARS, please visit: https://www.ars.usda.gov/.
