Winners of the 2011 Global Iowa Export Awards Announced


October 28, 2011 (Des Moines, IA)Winners of the 2011 Global Iowa Export Awards were announced and presented at the “Go Global - Innovations in Exporting Conference” held today at the Vermeer Pavilion in Pella, Iowa.   The 2011 Global Iowa Export Awards were presented to Ankeny-based Accu-Mold, LLC, Thermomass of Boone and Vermeer Corporation of Pella.


The Global Iowa Export Awards are presented by the Iowa Economic Development Authority (IEDA) in recognition of companies that are expanding their markets internationally.  Recipients are chosen based on their achievements and commitment to exporting as a component of their business strategy.

“It’s a privilege to recognize and celebrate the important contribution exporters make to the Iowa economy,” said Debi Durham, director of the Iowa Economic Development Authority.  “By promoting their products and services overseas, these exemplary companies are creating jobs and generating valued revenues for the state."


Accu-Mold, LLC is a high-tech manufacturer of precision micro, small and lead frame injection molded plastic components. These custom molded parts are often considered “critical components” in their customers’ next generation product development.  The company has experienced an export growth of six to 10 percent per year for the last three years.  Accu-Mold is currently exporting to 17 countries and territories and has participated in trade shows and multiple trips to Europe, Canada and Asia.

Thermomass has developed and manufactures a unique, patented, pre-engineered, high energy, insulated concrete sandwich wall system.  The company has been specified in over 100 million square feet of building panels in all 50 states and around the world since 1980 and has experienced an export growth rate of five percent per year over the last three years. 

Vermeer Corporation is a manufacturer of horizontal directional drilling machines to place cables, conduits and pipes underground; trenchers to cut a trench through dirt or rock to place pipes and services underground, grinders and chippers and specialty excavation equipment.  Vermeer is exporting to about 70 countries and made major advancements in market development in Colombia, Chile, Brazil, Argentina, Mongolia, China, Saudi Arabia, Turkey, and Sweden.  The company has experienced 11 to 20 percent export growth over the past three years.

The one-day conference featured speakers from Fredrikson & Byron, Dexter Laundry, Mechdyne and Al-Jon.  The keynote address was presented by Mary Vermeer Andringa, president and CEO of Vermeer Corporation and the current chair of the National Association of Manufacturers (NAM), the nation’s largest manufacturing association.

In addition to the IEDA, the Go Global Conference was hosted by the Iowa Innovation Gateway (IIG), a network of business, education, workforce, and economic development leaders working collaboratively to create a globally competitive region in central Iowa.  For more information about IIG, visit
