Iowa Economic Development Authority Launches the Iowa EDGE Program with the help of an EPA Grant

November 29, 2012 – (Des Moines, IA) The Iowa Economic Development Authority (IEDA) has been awarded a $74,110 grant from the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Pollution Prevention Program (P2) to launch a pilot, statewide industrial energy and water efficiency recognition program.

The Iowa EDGE (Economic Development by Gaining Efficiency) program, which launches this month, is a statewide recognition program that will engage industrial stakeholders in undertaking energy and water efficiency projects to lower energy costs. The program will focus on enhancing the use of existing resources and creating mechanisms to improve management decision-making on efficiency issues.

“The EDGE program will provide a collaborative approach to linking energy stakeholders with major power and water users in the industrial and manufacturing sectors,” said Debi Durham, director of the Iowa Economic Development Authority.  “While Iowa has a broad base of financial and technology assistance surrounding energy efficiency, less emphasis has been placed on providing industries with decision-making tools, effective management models and recognition for success on a statewide basis.”

By providing technical assistance to incorporate energy and water efficiency into a company’s operating model, this program will enable changes to processes, procedures, equipment, maintenance, and training, thereby promoting energy efficiency and water conservation.  IEDA will provide a one-to-one match of the EPA grant funds.
