Vision Iowa Board Awards $750,000 to the Cedar Valley SportsPlex in Waterloo


November 14, 2012 (Des Moines) - The Vision Iowa Board awarded a $750,000 grant to the Cedar Valley SportsPlex in Waterloo at today’s meeting in Des Moines.


The following project was approved for a grant from the Community Attraction and Tourism (CAT) Fund:


Cedar Valley SportsPlex – Waterloo

Total Project Cost: $22,166,390

Amount Requested: $1,500,000

Amount Awarded: $750,000

Award Contingencies: Completion of fundraising by January 31, 2013.


This project includes the construction of a recreation facility in downtown Waterloo.  The facility will include the following amenities: large field house for indoor soccer and other activities, gymnasium with basketball courts, walking/running track, weight lifting room, personal fitness studios, mat room, child care area and playground, locker rooms, meeting rooms and many other features.


The Vision Iowa Program provides financial incentives to communities for the construction of recreational, cultural, educational or entertainment facilities that enhance the quality of life in Iowa. Currently, 363 CAT awards have been granted by the board, totaling $137,818,849. The next Vision Iowa Board meeting is scheduled for December 12, 2012, in Des Moines.
