Iowa Economic Development Authority Partners with Innovation Gateway to Host Annual Export Conference

September 17, 2012 (Des Moines, IA) – The Iowa Innovation Gateway, its partners and the Iowa Economic Development Authority (IEDA) are hosting: “Risk and Rewards, an Exporting Conference” on November 2, 2012 from 8 a.m. - 1:30 p.m. at the Michael J. Manatt Community Center in Brooklyn, Iowa.  The conference will be of interest to those who currently export and to those who want to learn more about the world of exporting.

Participants will hear from Michael Flaherty, Canadian Trade Minister; Mary Lawyer, Honorary Canadian Consul; and Agents from the Federal Bureau of Investigation who will address economic espionage and safe guarding proprietary information.  Experienced exporters will also share lessons learned.

“Iowa’s exporting figures for the first part of this year are phenomenal,” said IEDA director Debi Durham.  “Conferences like the one we are co-hosting with our partners not only encourage additional export activity, but also support our efforts in strengthening Iowa companies and creating jobs and wealth.”

The IEDA encourages regional businesses to attend the conference and to nominate a regional company for one of the awards for excellence in exporting to be presented during the conference to several Central Iowa companies.  The Global Iowa Export Awards recognize companies expanding their markets internationally based on their achievements and commitment to exporting as a component of their business strategy.

The cost of the conference is $40 and includes a continental breakfast and lunch. A registration discount is available for students.  To register and learn more about the conference, go to
