Series of Stormwater Management Workshops Offered Across the State

September 7, 2012 (DES MOINES, IA) - The Iowa Economic Development Authority is offering stormwater management workshops and a tour titled “Sustainable Infrastructure Training: Comprehensive Approaches to Stormwater Management” in various Iowa communities during the months of September and October.

The five workshops in September are free and are focused on training local elected officials, policy makers and local community staff on sustainable stormwater practices that not only improve quality of life, but also are increasingly being supported by state and federal funding programs.

The three workshops in October are geared for design professionals and will address strategies for addressing stormwater runoff that are beneficial to water quality, the natural environment and drainage management as well as overall project sustainability and cost effectiveness.  These strategies are increasingly being supported by state and federal funding programs, and attendees will learn how to develop a competitive and fundable project.

The third and final component of this series is a Green Infrastructure Tour on Thursday, October 18th in which participants will travel by bus and observe best sustainable management practices in action including rain gardens, bio-cells, pervious pavements and green roofs constructed for stormwater management.  This tour is sponsored by the Iowa Stormwater Education Program and the American Public Works Association.
