Iowa Tourism Office Launches Annual Campaign to Attract Visitors

From targeted online ads to elevator wraps in high traffic malls, Iowa’s travel message to reach busy, trip-planning moms  

 

April 25, 2012  (DES MOINES, IOWA) - The Iowa Tourism Office launches its spring marketing campaign this month in Chicago, Kansas City and Minneapolis to lure travelers from surrounding states.

 

The campaign will utilize traditional and non-traditional media placements like online ads, signage in malls and targeted 15-second television spots to garner an estimated 74.3 million impressions. A focused public relations and social media campaign will supplement the paid advertising and work to engage Iowa’s target audiences.

 

“We know that moms, by and large, do the family’s trip planning. And that her goal for any vacation is to create quality experiences her family will remember forever,” said Shawna Lode, Tourism Office Manager for the Iowa Economic Development Authority. “This campaign will highlight what makes Iowa an attractive, affordable, easy-to-get-to family destination.”

 

Tourism is big business in the state of Iowa, where travelers annually generate more than $6 billion in spending and leave behind more than $300 million in state tax revenue. Each spring, the Iowa Tourism Office implements a multi-faceted campaign to pique Midwesterners’ interest in Iowa and encourage them to visit traveliowa.com to learn about travel amenities that await them in the state.

 

CAMPAIGN DETAILS

·         The 2012 consumer campaign will utilize advertising, public relations and social media to reach the Iowa Tourism Office’s target audience.

·         The Iowa Tourism Office will reach target audiences through paid search and display ads on lifestyle websites that will direct traffic to traveliowa.com.

·         Key cable networks in Chicago, Minneapolis and Kansas City will air 15-second spots that encourage families to vacation in Iowa.

·         The Iowa Tourism Office will utilize its social media channels like Facebook, Twitter and Travel Iowa blog to give travelers a chance to socialize and share their travel experiences using an “Iowa Summer Snapshots” theme.

·         Iowa travel will be highlighted through full color print ads in popular parenting and lifestyle magazines.
