Governor’s Volunteer Award Nominations due April 6

Nominations may be submitted by nonprofits and government agencies

March 20, 2012 (DES MOINES, IOWA) — The Iowa Commission on Volunteer Service is currently accepting nominations for the 2012 Governor’s Volunteer Awards (GVA).  Nominations must be postmarked by April 6 and can be submitted in one of several categories: Individual, Group, Length of Service or Disaster Volunteer.

This prestigious volunteer recognition program was created in 1982, with inaugural awards presented in 1983.  What began as a small program only available to state government agencies has expanded over the years and now provides all Iowa non-profit, charitable and government organizations with an easy way to honor local volunteers with a state-level recognition award.

Nominations should be submitted by the organization that directly benefited from the work of a particular volunteer.  To ensure the nominal handling fee is charged to the appropriate agency, ALL nominations must be submitted through and approved by an official Governor’s Volunteer Awards coordinator.  Recipients do not necessarily need to live in Iowa, but their service must have benefited Iowans or an Iowa organization.

Hundreds of volunteers will be recognized for their commitment, service and time during regional award presentation ceremonies held across the state in June.
