More than $900,000 in CAT Grants Awarded to Two Projects
 
March 10, 2016 (Des Moines) – The Vision Iowa Board awarded $940,000 in Community Attraction and Tourism (CAT) grants to an aquatic center in Independence and events center in Sheldon. The grants were approved by the Vision Iowa Board at yesterday’s meeting in Grand Junction.
 
The following projects were approved for grants awarded from the Community Attraction and Tourism (CAT) Fund:

Independence Aquatic Center, Independence
Total Project Cost: $4,231,000
Amount Requested: $100,000
Amount Awarded: $100,000
Project Description: The aquatic center will feature an 8,070-square-foot pool, zero depth entry, six 25-meter lap lanes, two diving towers, floatable water walk, single flume waterslide, shade structure, bathhouse, full concession stand and party shelter.
 
Lodge at Sheldon Crossing, Sheldon
Total Project Cost: $5,172,926
Amount Requested: $898,900
Amount Awarded: $840,000
Award Contingencies: Completion of fundraising within 60 days.
Project Description: This project includes the construction of 14,200 square foot building with an open floor plan that will accommodate 450 guests at round tables or 750 with stadium seating. The facility will be divided into three meeting rooms allowing flexibility for several activities at one time.
 
The Vision Iowa Program provides financial incentives to communities for the construction of recreational, cultural, educational or entertainment facilities that enhance the quality of life in Iowa. Currently, 416 CAT awards have been granted by the board, totaling $154,907,674. The next Vision Iowa Board meeting is tentatively scheduled for April 13, 2016, in Iowa City.
