2016 Moving Iowa Forward Conference

September 13, 2016 (DES MOINES) - The Iowa Economic Development Authority and Iowa Department of Transportation (Iowa DOT) are partnering to host the sixth Moving Iowa Forward: Economic Development and Transportation Conference. The conference will help attendees understand how transportation and economic development can and do work together to make Iowa a better place to do business. What:    2016 Moving Iowa Forward: Economic Development and Transportation Conference
When:   Tuesday, September 20, 2016 -- 8 a.m. – 4 p.m.

Where:  Des Moines Marriott, 700 Grand Avenue, Des Moines

Who:       The conference keynote speaker is Dr. Walter Kemmsies, Managing Director and Economist and Chief Strategist for JLL’s U.S. Ports, Airports and Global Infrastructure Group. Walter is widely viewed as one of the foremost experts on ports, rail and infrastructure in the U.S. His areas of expertise include: demand forecasting, maritime and overall global trade regulatory issues, public/private port and infrastructure financing as well as long term strategic planning/capital investment.  Walter’s professional experience working in Europe, Latin America and Asia uniquely qualifies him as a global trade economist. He provides substantial support to the freight movement industry via a monthly column in American Shipper, presentations at major international industry conferences, and advising the U.S. Department of Commerce on supply chain competitiveness.

The conference general session will also feature a panel discussion centered on the theme of Efficiency, Funding and Technology featuring Iowa DOT director Paul Trombino and Matthew Hardy, Program Director for Planning and Policy at the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (AASHTO).  Afternoon breakout session topics include: the newly-released Freight Optimization Study, PTC regulation, SOLAS and the Road Use Gas Tax.
