More than $2.2 million awarded in CAT grants to Five projects

December 14, 2016 (Des Moines) – The Enhance Iowa Board awarded $2,263,865 in Community Attraction and Tourism (CAT) grants to five projects at today’s meeting in Des Moines.

The following projects were approved:

Prospect Meadows, Marion
Total Project Cost: $13,057,436
Amount Requested: $1,500,000
Amount Awarded: $1,000,000

Project Description: This project includes the construction of a 16-field sports complex for baseball and softball, a Miracle Field for people with disabilities, walking trail, supervised play area, recreation lake, a two-acre flower garden, concession stands, restrooms and a storm shelter.

Ferguson Sports Complex and Fitness Trail, Keosauqua
Total Project Cost: $1,316,960
Amount Requested: $400,000
Amount Awarded: $270,000

Project Description: This project includes the construction of a new sports complex with four fields for baseball or softball use, concession stand, playground, batting cage, equipment storage buildings, new picnic tables and bleachers for spectators. A one-mile loop trail will surround the complex and feature eight fitness stations.

Hartman Reserve Building Renovation, Waterloo
Total Project Cost: $2,504,353
Amount Requested: $707,568
Amount Awarded: $480,000

Project Description: Renovations to the Hartman Reserve will add additional space without increasing the existing footprint. The upper floor plan includes a large multi-purpose room, kitchen, offices, restrooms, library and four-season porch. ADA compliant components include an elevator, leveling the entrance and renovating the restrooms. The lower floor plan includes a learning lab with direct access to the outdoors and a multimedia room.

Boone History Center Building Improvements Project, Boone
Total Project Cost: $316,000
Amount Requested: $63,865
Amount Awarded: $63,865

Project Description: This project includes exterior and interior construction and renovations to the Boone History Center. Components include a new elevator, HVAC, security system and lighting, and restoration of the hardwood floors.

Community Betterment Project II, Le Mars
Total Project Cost: $3,500,000
Amount Requested: $480,600
Amount Awarded: $450,000

Project Description: This project includes renovations to municipal parks, campgrounds, a shelter house, cultural events center, fitness center and a new skate park.

The Enhance Iowa Program provides financial incentives to communities for the construction of recreational, cultural, educational or entertainment facilities that enhance the quality of life in Iowa. To date, eight CAT awards have been granted by the board, totaling $3,142,481.
