Main Street Iowa Restaurant Week debuts September 15-24
Event invites residents and visitors to experience local eateries statewide

September 6, 2017 (Des Moines, Iowa) — The inaugural Main Street Iowa Restaurant Week, happening September 15-24, encourages Iowans to travel to and dine in Main Street Iowa communities across the state.

During the 10-day event, nearly 150 restaurants in 16 communities will feature a variety of special dining offers, such as community-wide passports that reward diners for visiting local restaurants, “prix fixe” options and more. Visit for details. Diners are encouraged to share their experiences using #MSIRestaurantWeek on Instagram and Twitter.

“Restaurants in Main Street communities provide a broad variety of unique flavors in mom-and-pop cafes and white-tableclothed eateries,” said Jim Engle, director of the Iowa Downtown Resource Center. “These restaurants, bars and bistros provide a key ingredient to the thriving social, business and residential life in the historic commercial districts in Main Street Iowa communities.”

“People crave authentic dining experiences when they travel; they want to eat where the locals frequent,” said Shawna Lode, manager of the Iowa Tourism Office. “Main Street Iowa Restaurant Week is a terrific opportunity for Iowans to explore locally owned restaurants in their own backyards and for visitors to enjoy our wealth of undiscovered restaurants.”
