Iowa Downtown Resource Center - Downtown Development Specialist
The Iowa Economic Development Authority (IEDA), located in Des Moines, IA, is seeking a qualified candidate to join its team as a Downtown Development Specialist. The Downtown Development Specialist’s primary responsibilities are to provide comprehensive downtown development assistance to Main Street Iowa communities and other downtown development groups across the state.

General Duties:

  • Support Main Street and community development staff and volunteers, businesses and city officials.
  • Provide technical assistance in the form of public presentations, facilitation of groups, written reports, and programs developed to support local downtown revitalization efforts.
  • Areas of focus will be the Main Street Approach, downtown economic development, non-profit management, business assistance and marketing.
  • The position will also assist with team projects such as downtown assessment visits, grant services, and new downtown initiatives.
  • Active in statewide outreach to communities including event management.

Extensive travel throughout Iowa is required.

The ideal candidate will have at least five years of experience directing activities for a downtown development organization.

Minimum Qualifications:
Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with major course work in research, economics, business, economic development, management or a related field and experience equal to two years of full-time work that involved responsibility for interpreting laws, rules and regulations, and/or securing compliance with them; or compiling and evaluating statistical, historical, economic, business, financial, or technical related or program data;
an equivalent combination of education and experience substituting one year of the above required experience for each year (thirty semester or equivalent hours) of the required education.
