More than $1 Million in CAT Grants Awarded to Projects in Carroll, Schleswig, Washington
 
September 12, 2018 (Des Moines) – The Enhance Iowa Board awarded $1,026,292 in Community Attraction and Tourism (CAT) grants to a library expansion in Carroll, a youth sports complex in Schleswig and a YMCA in Washington at today’s meeting in Earlham.

The following projects were approved for grants awarded from the Community Attraction and Tourism (CAT) Fund:

Project Name: New Library, New Carroll, Carroll
Total Project Cost: $4,613,305
Amount Requested: $491,292
Amount Awarded: $491,292
Project Description: This project will expand to the space once occupied by city hall. The renovation and expansion of the library will allow for a larger children’s section with room for on-site programming and increased space for community gatherings and educational opportunities.

Project Name: Schleswig Youth Rec Sports Complex, Schleswig
Total Project Cost: $166,326
Amount Requested: $35,000
Amount Awarded: $35,000
Project Description: This project includes a new concession stand with handicap accessible restrooms and storage for field equipment and sports gear. A new ball diamond with dugouts and fencing will be constructed on the old football field.

Project Name: Washington Community Y Phase 1 Building Project, Washington
Total Project Cost: $8,913,077
Amount Requested: $500,000
Amount Awarded: $500,000
Project Description: The new two-story building includes gym space that can host multiple activities at once with room for spectators. New youth and adult community rooms, locker rooms, two new wellness rooms, strength and weight rooms, fitness rooms, and a spinning room are all included. There will be several multi-purpose spaces and an elevated walking track on the second floor.

The Enhance Iowa Program provides financial incentives to communities for the construction of recreational, cultural, educational or entertainment facilities that enhance the quality of life in Iowa. To date, 38 CAT awards have been granted by the board, totaling $12,734,194. The next Enhance Iowa Board meeting is scheduled for October 10, 2018, in Granger.
